GYMBO PARTICIPATES IN “WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY 2013”

As part of its mission to promote fitness and healthy living, GYMBO participated in a special ceremony entitled: “Ban Tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship”, which was held at the Saint Joseph University in Beirut, on 19th June 2013. The ceremony marked the occasion of “The World No Tobacco Day 2013”, held under the patronage of H.E. Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, and organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health in Lebanon. Event hosted a number of renowned speakers and specialists who highlighted the importance of banning tobacco advertisements and promotional campaigns and sponsorships. There was also a short play performance by the International Theater to showcase the dangers of tobacco and smoking on the human body. The event concluded with distribution of awards to organizations that contributed most towards the ban of tobacco advertising and promotions. Ghassan Majed, General Manager of GYMBO, was present at the event and remarked: “We are pleased to be part of this important event marking the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2013. GYMBO’s mission has been, is and will always be, to promote fitness and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is a combination of a healthy diet, and that is eating the right foods (quality and quantity), along with regular exercise, in addition to refraining from the elements that bring harm to the body. So we felt that our message was in sync with the event’s theme and mission.

“According to the WHO report of Tobacco Epidemic in 2011, tobacco use causes more than 5 million deaths worldwide per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030! These are very alarming figures which reflect the importance of such events and drives organized by WHO, to raise awareness against tobacco and smoking advertisements and promotional campaigns.

“On behalf of GYMBO management, I would like to thank Ms Rana Koleilat from the International Theater, who invited us to this event as well as the organizers who worked hard to put on a great show,” concluded Ghassan.

Omar Soubra, GYMBO Fitness and Personal Trainer, went on stage and demonstrated the importance of doing regular exercises, as part of a healthy lifestyle, which refrains people from pursuing unhealthy habits, such as use of tobacco and smoking.
